Why rent a car in Fort-de-France
Fort-de-France is the capital of Martinique: the cruise port, government offices, shops and many business hotels are here. Our agency is at 12 rue de la Rocade, open every day from 7 am to 7:30 pm. You can collect your car there free of charge, or have it delivered to your hotel, your office or the Pointe Simon cruise terminal. As a local company based in the city since day one, we know every car park, one-way street and shortcut.

Road trips from Fort-de-France
From Fort-de-France, the Route de la Trace (N3) crosses the rainforest to Morne-Rouge and Saint-Pierre: the most beautiful road on the island. Heading south, the A1 motorway then the N5 reach Les Trois-Îlets in 35 minutes. Along the north Caribbean coast, the N2 runs past Schœlcher, Case-Pilote and Le Carbet to Saint-Pierre. The airport is 20 minutes away via the ring road.
Driving tips for Fort-de-France
Parking in the city centre is paid on weekdays: use the Pointe Simon or Malecon car parks. Downtown streets are one-way, so follow your phone's GPS. On Sunday mornings the centre is quiet with plenty of free spaces, ideal for exploring on foot.
Martinique drives on the right with the same road rules as mainland France. Tropical showers are sudden: slow down on wet roads, especially on hillside bends. Night falls around 6:30 pm all year round, so plan your drive back from the beach.
When to rent a car in Fort-de-France?
High season runs from November to April, the dry and sunny season, plus July and August during school holidays. Automatics, SUVs and 7 to 9-seaters go fast: book four to eight weeks ahead for Christmas, Carnival and Easter. From May to June and in September and October, prices drop noticeably and the roads are quieter; the rainy season brings short, heavy showers without stopping you from enjoying the island.
